Embracing change in our little RA Community

I will soon be celebrating my first RA Anniversary!

The time has gone by so fast, and I’ve met many wonderful people within our little community.

I’ve been frequenting RA related blogs and have met wonderful people on Twitter.

Recently, I’ve added Tumblr to my daily rotation (IWantToBeAPinUpToo).

It may not be for the faint-hearted, but it’s such a fabulous group of free-spirited and hilarious individuals.

I find the atmosphere there very liberating, and I seem to be constantly laughing out loud at the things people come.

I like to think that, no matter the medium, we all have one thing in common.

It’s the ability to make friends and form attachments, offer support and make someones day a little bit brighter or more interesting.

Are you surprised I didn’t say ‘Richard Armitage’?

I see him as a wonderful, sexy, handsome trigger, the yummy-bottomed glue that holds us together.

No doubt things will change, possibly starting in July with the first push of Hobbit publicity, then all hell will break loose in December.

Our little heterotopia will probably be shook at its very foundations.

I’d like to think that we will be able to endure the change and embrace new RA members that will no doubt flock here.

I can only hope that, at the core, we will still remember what brought us and kept us here in the first place.

  1. I say we all roll with the punches, accept that things may very well change within the fandom, and simply wish Richard all the best in his career as we welcome new fans. 😀
Isn’t that what Mr A would want?

    • It’s really hard to say what RA would want, as he hasn’t really been all that close to his RArmy as of late, but I do believe that any true (and sane) admirer would wish all the best for him 🙂
A part of me can’t wait for the new RA admirers, it’ll be interesting to see him through their perspective 🙂

    • Thanks Ana, it’s the Tumblr influence 🙂 I agree that there is enough room for all of us, no matter where we come from. Some people will leave and move on the other things, others will join us, but I believe that, to paraphrase Celine, ‘Our Heart will go on…’ 🙂

  3. I suspect that this community may change quite a bit once the promotion kicks up and especially once the first film is released. Like you, I look forward to that change! There is plenty of room for more Armitage fans, including all of the Tolkien fanboys! 😉

    • You mean *Gulp* more boys? That sounds nice 🙂 I can imagine there will be a new group of crazed, funny, creative people joinging RArmy, thman just need to switch on his charms and recruit! After all, it wasn’t that long ago when I was a newbie RA fan and I was welcome in our little community. I hope to return the favour!

  5. Hi,

Personally, I’m a fangirl of Tolkien (I’ve read all his books and also write in runes :P) , I admit that because of The Hobbit I’ve “met” Richard, so we can say that I go into the category of “new members”

From the beginning, I was favorably impressed by his admirers, all of you’re really interested in making known the best of him and his work. What impressed me most was that you’re really respectful of the privacy of RA. Previously, I had casual contact with fans of a couple of bands that I adore, so I can say that generally it isn´t that way.

This reveals that his community actually loves Richard for what he is: a great actor and a great person … handsome, of course he is (OMG – he really is!) but you can easily see that his talent transcends from there.

Having the opportunity to share thoughts every day, laugh or think, has been very interesting and I hope to continue doing so.

I’m looking forward the release of the Hobbit to enjoy more of his work!

    🙂 🙂

    • Oh Vec, so YOURE that Tolkien fan we should fear 😉 LOL! I’m looking forward to a new perspective on RA, especially that a huge % of us got hooked on RA through RH or N&S. I can’t wait to see how you Tolkien fans judge his performance, especially the approach it: Whatever he’s selling, I’m buying! 🙂
I think that new members of our family is the second aspect I’m excited about, after seeing RA on the big screen.
A year ago I was a newbie, everyone seemed so friendly with one another in the RA world and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be accepted. This is a wonderful, inviting group of friends and I hope I will be able to pay back for the kindness shown me last year 🙂

      • 🙂 Oh yeah be afraid, very afraid 🙂
I have great confidence in his portrayal of Thorin, I’m sure he has really incorporated the Oakenshield!

        • He is going to do it justice! There are a few roles that I feel pushed RA as an actor. John Thornton was one (he even stated that in an interview), and I think playing Thorin is another part that will push him. I hope 🙂 It’s enough that he has to play the shortest man in the room!

  6. vec170203 has hit the nail on the head so to speak IMHO. I too am impressed that the RA community has lots of fun with our admiration of RA but know that he also deserves his privacy and room to do his fantastic work. I have been really impressed with the intelligence and caring attitude of the admirers and the quality of the posts on the blog sites. I hope this respect for the lovely man endures.

    • That’s a lovely thing to say Anna 🙂 I agree with you. It’s the people, their creativity and caring nature that keeps me comming back for more in the RA world. It’s good to keep a tad ‘in check’ with the enthusiasm, but I always say, fandoms draw people who are a tad unbalanced, but we’ve been really lucky. We’re the good loons 🙂
