For Guylty…”Friendship is a light in dark times”

I had written a huge intro, but I decided to keep it simple: Let’s give back a little bit of that positive energy that Guylty has been showering us with.

Ancient Armitage

I am sure that most of you are already aware that Guylty’s father died last week after a sudden and unexpected illness.  The obituary for her father appeared in their local paper yesterday, and it asks mourners not to send tangible expressions of sympathy to the family.  The desired beneficiary of any memorials is a Heimatverein via a German bank account.

Since this will be a bit difficult for people outside of the EU to participate in, Servetus and I talked it over and we thought that a donation to one of Richard Armitage’s Just Giving charities on behalf of fans might be in order (similar to the one that was organized in memory of Servetus’ mom last summer).  I have set up a new PayPal account to collect donations which will then be donated at the Just Giving site.

This post is not meant as a pressure to donate;  …

Armitage Weekly Round-Up Week 9

armitage 9

I hope spring is slowly heading your way and that’s put a spring in your step 🙂

This is week 9 of the round-up and, as always, you can get the best that Tumblr has to offer over at Guylty’s.

Here’s a round-up of posts that have caught my eye this week.

The list is by no means exhaustive so feel free to leave links in comments.

This week has been abundant in RA news bits and bobs, so when you click on the posts I have linked to, make sure you check out other ones too.

The spReAd the love Children’s Book Challenge is in full swing.

I promised myself I will read all the books that meant so much to my fellow Armitage Admirers when they were children.

Talking about contributing, don’t forget to vote for Richard at the Jameson Empire Awards.

He’s nominated for the best supporting actor, so get voting, especially seeing that he’s up against some tough competition.

I’m not sure about repeat voting at Empire, but it’s worth giving it a try 😉

bhhfmwtcuaad9ji-1

It’s also worth keeping an eye on The Anglophile Channel as they, and more importantly Richard, are teasing us shamelessly.

Here are some lovely pics of Richard from the day and I for one want to know what was in the glass Richard was sipping on, I think it’s good ol’ vodka

The full interview shall apparently be out at the weekend so I’ll link when it pops up.

Talking about Armitage (and when are we not?), remember when we were keeping our fingers crossed for Richard to play Ross Poldark in the latest adaptation?

Well, it seems my second favorite choice meaning Aidan Turner landed the part *does happy dance*

Don’t worry, Richard is involved in a new project and although there are no cravats involved, I am nevertheless thrilled.

RA/The Hobbit/OT posts

This week many bloggers shared their top ten pictures of Richard:

My Tumblr Secret Valentine from Switzerland

I think this will be my last post pertaining to Valentine’s Week, but then I don’t know what the rules are, maybe it’ll turn into a month…

Apart from getting all luvie with RAworld Secret Valentine, I also took part in the Tumblr event.

SAM_0566

Mid week I got a snazzy box from Switzerland  that sounded like there were jigsaw puzzles inside (perhaps a “stick a tail on Richard?).

Going down the stereotype route I opted for either Swiss chocolate or a cuckoo clock with Richard popping out on the hour.

V2

I opened it up and it revealed a plethora of goodies, most of them hand-made, and you know how I feel about that!

Check out the lovely necklace that will enrich my Little Thorin collection:

V3

Not to mention the knitted pouch (in my favorite colour!) and Thorin/Hobbit notebook:

V4

And then there were dozens of chocolate hearts that will soon end up in my belly 🙂

Thank you Kiwitage!

And to all my blogging friends (readers, writers and lurkers), wouldn’t it be fun if we did something like this within our group for another occasion?

Armitage Weekly Round-Up Week 7

armitage 7 valentine

This is week 7 of the Armitage Weekly Round-Up.

To see what the written word was up to this week, check out Arkenstone’s fanfiction round-up.

As always, Tumblr has been buzzing with excitement and Guylty has compiled a list of the  cream-of-the-crop posts.

This is a special edition of the RA Weekly Round-Up as we celebrate Valentine’s day and nothing brings to mind a little bit of good ol’ fashioned luvvvv like Richard Armitage!

Thorin 5

This week sees the first RAworld Secret Valentine, as lovingly created by Guylty (thanks Miss!).

I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed going through all the cards, vids and letters and it warmed the cockles of my frozen heart to see evidence of friendship, affection and a heavy sprinkling of RA admiration.

But then we’ve been spReAding the love for a while now!

Valentine’s / Love posts

Here’s a Richard Armitage fan message video from The Anglophile:

Guylty celebrates Valentine’s with pizzazz

I agree with Obscura, nothing says love like a bit of blood sacrifice!

With two extremely hunky Valentine’s from fantasy land no bother there are no RL ones to just pale in comparison

The only thing better than an RA bum post is if it’s placed in a Valentine context. The perfect storm

If you know what I do for a living, you’ll have little doubt I regard grammar as a bit of a turn on 😉

Shut Up and Kiss Me! is an entirely appropriate thing to tell Richard on Valentine’s Day!

Perfect song for Valentine’s Day AND a Friday! Good one Kelbel!

Celebrate Valentine’s like a Fangirl! (advice for next year!)

RA/Hobbit/OT

Uttering: “Richard, I’m behind you” may be a dream come true or cause to call the authorities 😉 Anyway, congrats Magwi!

No catchphrase can beat the original: “Hey, Richard Armitage, I think your G-string is a bit tight…” (even stranger still, my spell-check insists it should be “you’re g-string”…).

Is Thornton a man of low self-esteem? I wish I could kiss it and make it all better…

If Harry is your pen/email pal, you’re in luck! Plenty of news from Dibley

And he’ll cook the books for you too!

I always thought Richard was a Beanie Baby 😉

More on Richard’s sartorial decisions! (if good-looking people don’t know how to dress well, I say they should just go around in their undies/nude!).

*grabby hands* No, I don’t need that Moleskin Hobbit notebook, shut up, I want it, my precious…!

All together now:

Hey Ricky, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind!

Hey Ricky! *claps hands” Hey Ricky!

Talking about music, here are the notes of Middle Earth

On misogyny and being a geek

Armitage Army card

I hope you have a great week and I’ll be back tomorrow to show you what I got from my Tumblr Valentine from Switzerland (yes, there’s chocolate involved!).

Feeling Crafty: Armitage Army Steampunk Card

Armitage Army card 2

I was feeling crafty today.

OK, not enough to actually finish the projects I had abandoned, but I needed something quick, easy and fun.

A while back I had come across this post at Epbot which involved metal tape (aluminum foil tape to be precise), black acrylic paint and plenty of beating and bashing.

Steampunk-licious? Sign me up!

Every so often I send out a card to my fellow Armitage Admirer as way of thanks for something tasty I received from them, but I always struggle to come up with a funky design, or I’m out of cardboard to print it on and so on, so I needed a fun card that was quick to make and purdy 😉

1

The biggest challenge was to find that aluminum foil tape.

After checking out some hardware shops (I know, it was scary…) it turned out that it’s used for fireplace isolation stuff, so you should find it in that section.

I also bought “drywall seam tape” which is a fancy name for adhesive mesh thingy and some foam letter stickers so I could lovingly create the “Armitage Army” sign.

2

Once I stuck the letters on, I started adding the seam tape and then covered the whole area with the aluminum tape.

The process was OK, word of advice though:

I felt the letters I had used were a bit too small, therefore when I started to push the tape down to make them more visible the tape punctured in a few places.

Maybe had they been a bit bigger, it would have been easier to really get into all the nooks and crannies and they would have been clearer (“m” was particularly challenging…).

I also think you should avoid having tape seams on the letters.

 Armitage Army card

Having said that, the black acrylic paint luckily covered any rips and I did make my card plenty grimy!

I should add that I wasn’t using any professional tools, I was free-styling with the rivet holes and such, so maybe if I had a clay tool, it would have been easier.

Anyway, now I’m thinking about what else I could do:

cards? notebook covers? an image to stick in a frame and hang on the wall?

Have a wonderful day 🙂

Armitage Weekly Round-Up Week 6

armitage 6

Welcome to week 6 of the Armitage Weekly Round-Up.

As always the list is by no means exhaustive so please leave links in comments to posts you found interesting and I did not include.

Arkenstone proves that the pen is mightier than the sword (sorry Guy) and has compiled the hottest fanfiction offerings of the week.

Guylty put aside Valentine’s issues long enough to compile a list of what Tumblr so lovingly provided.

It might not have been the best week for many of us (please remember that there are people you can talk to), but thanks to a good Armitage cheer even the most gloomy of days become brighter.

heart-1

Case in point, Guylty is going full (luv) steam ahead with the RAworld Secret Valentine!

I’m super excited about it, especially that I can’t remember blogs ever collectively celebrating Valentine’s Day and yet we spend the rest of the year sharing our Armitage luvvv!

If you haven’t signed up but have had a change of heart and would like to participate, I’m sure Guylty wouldn’t turn you away, so come join us!

Talking about a little love:

Time Square? More like Smooch Square!

And on the topic feelings, we are still spReAding the love!

Golden Oldies:

This post on (alleged) clothes swapping between Thraduil Lee and Thorin Richard reminded me how much I love to read posts about celebs and their fashion choices.

index

One of the most interesting blogs that specializes in nitpicking Richard’s attire is Jonia’s RA Vogue and Style!

(photos open OK in explorer but not in firefox for some reason…)

Jonia digs deep and takes one for the team to stare at Armitage pictures and try to determine what clothes he’s wearing.

I hope there’s plenty more to come, so continue digging Jonia 🙂

I hope you enjoyed week 6 and I’ll see you next week for another round-up!

Armitage Weekly Round-Up Week 5

armitage 5

Welcome to another week of RA/Hobbit/OT post round-up.

This list is by no means exhaustive, so please add any links in comments I may have accidentally omitted.

Once again it’s quite long (the list, not Richard’s…. oh, never mind…), but I’ve tried to include posts from RA blogs for those who don’t do the rounds daily, as well as a few surprises for those who keep their finger on the Armitage pulse.

Trudy’s new book In Consequence is up for grabs, so make sure you leave comments on either posts for the chance to get your hands on this yummy N&S retelling (giveaway ends on Thursday).

Talking of wonderful ideas, Guylty, Ms *Ooof* herself, was brainstorming how we should celebrate Valentine’s Day Armitage Style, and the people have spoken, so make sure you sign up!

Valentine’s Day is the day of luuuuuuv, so have you spReAd any Armitage love recently?

And spReAd it some more!

Sherlock Series 3

There’s been quite an uproar in the BBC Sherlock fandom of late and has sent ripples throughout other fandoms.

(link removed by request of blogger) and here’s another post on the topic.

EDIT: Just in case this requires clarification, any comments that I write below are not in any way, shape or form a comment on the posts I have linked to above, but rather very loose thoughts on Abbington’s comments made on the issue of Johnlock and fan art.

I may actually grow a pair in the next few days and write about how, although Abbington has a right to her opinion, I have to disagree with what was said and how it was phrased (and luckily I get to have an opinion too).

In a nutshell this is why I can’t stand by and witness people policing others with regards to their preferences and likes, be it slash fiction, RPF or anything else.

Shades of grey...

Armitage Weekly Round-Up Week 4

Holy cow, how is it already week 4???

Here’s another dose of RA/Hobbit/OT posts I’ve picked up throughout the week.

EDIT: Guylty brought to my attention that the links don’t open in a separate tab/window, I’ve gone back and changed the settings, so fear not and click away 😉

You can keep track of RA blogs here.

My list is by no mean exhaustive, so please feel free to add links in comments.

Also, please consider leaving comments on the posts you visit and just so you know winter won’t end and the frost won’t leave till you do! OK, not true, but I’m not above a little emotional blackmail…

armitage 4

Arkenstone has rolled up her sleeves and gone through a sea of words to unearth the gems in fanfiction for this week.

Guylty once again braves the Johnlock and PenisFriday shark-infested waters of Tumblr and has provided us with another weekly round-up.

fan-event-badge

There are still posts popping up for the RA Fan Flash Event, so make sure you check them out!

The event was so impromptu, but it was wonderful to go back to our fangirling roots and celebrate where we all came from and where we’re heading.

I for one wouldn’t mind actually ending up somewhere near RA, so Universe, make it happen!

The New York Pinter/Proust event still lights a spark in our hearts (not to mention other places…) so here are posts written on the subject from this week.

On a personal note let me just tell you how much I’ve enjoyed them, not so much the Armitage side as the accounts of fellow Armitage admirers.

You all rocked, not to mention, judging by pics, you seem to be quite a good-looking bunch 😉

Armitage Besotted‘s account of the event! You rocked the evening, lady!

Curiosity killed the cat, Richard! But seriously, what were you thinking?

RA/The Hobbit/OT posts:

Richard doesn’t appreciate his bits being frozen (allegedly…)

My mind is much too dirty to use the word “selfie” and not giggle, but I tried not to be so childish as I read about the Armitage selfies

If I ever need mouth-to-mouth, I’m keeping my fingers crossed Richard’s the one who does it!

What a great week to be an Armitage fan indeed! It’s the gift that keeps JustGiving!

Good to know I’m not the only one a bit crazy about fanfiction (Hobbit, Sherlock, RA… you write it, I’ll read it…)

Which Magical Tolkien Creature are you? I’m a Hobbit, I guess because of the hairy feet…

Lady Oakenshield resists running her fingers through Richard’s hair! I think you should have just gone for it and then ran away to avoid being knocked down and escorted out by security!

What do you get when you cross Trudy and Milton?

Arkie touches base and braves the cold (seriously, what is up with the weather? let’s send some cold Down Under so they can save on AC electricity bills…)

Meme Madness: Tolkien Edition! (made me giggle…)

An interesting take on Tolkien and strong female characters

Talking about strong females, another RA fan encounter! Adorable!

Obscura, you had me at “ancient nudity”!

From nudity to a wide variety of headgear… (Polish text, very pretty pictures)

This is why the eagles couldn’t take the dwarves all the way to the mountain

Adorable Smaug socks, what about some Thorin ones?

OT: Arkie’s Movie Alphabet and MorrighansMuse The Alphabet Movie Meme

Richard a member of the saggy bottom club? NEVER!!!

I like pretty book-inspired trinkets *grabby hands* I’ll take them all please!

A letter to the cast and crew of The Hobbit

I’m not one for playing games (well, at least not of the computer variety), but Shadow of Mordor looks interesting if you like that sort of thing

When you’re ready to step out into the limelight, I’ll hold the curtain back for you, CC!

If it’s Thornton’s Mill and Queen’s Mill, does that make Thornton a queen?

How The Hobbit: DOS should have ended!

Guylty probably linked to this, but just in case… I sit in rooms full of people and none of them are ever Richard! Not fair! (thanks Serv!)

As promised, I wanted to offer up two sets of Golden Oldies to make up for last week.

Firstly, here are posts from Heirs of Durin which I found very interesting:

In Defense of Thorin Oakenshield

The post from August 2012 takes a look at Mr Majestic’s actions and analyses whether he is a hero, a villain, both or neither.

and

Legacy of the People: The Burdens of Thorin Oakenshield and Boromir of Gondor

A look at the broken and lost characters we hold so dear to us.

heirs-main-page1

My second choice was something a little different, but it seems the site is having problems and all the photos have disappeared 😦

I hope this is just temporary and I’ll be able to share my Golden Oldie choice next week.

armitage jumper

Remember to check out Guylty’s Tumblr Weekly Round-Up and Arkenstone’s Fanfiction Weekly Round-Up!

I will see you next week for the RA Weekly Round-Up Week *gulp* 5!

Richard, a Fan by any other name…

Armitage a rose

I’ve come across a few notes here and there that said “Hello, I’m a new well-wisher!”.

Firstly, you are very welcome to our little group of friends 🙂

Secondly, I wanted to focus on the phrase “well-wisher” for a bit.

Richard has always mentioned his unease at having “fans” and in his last Christmas message (which I really wasn’t expecting and which brightened up a particularly grim day), he referred to his admirers as “well-wishers”.

Far be it for me to tell Richard what to feel (Oh, I would sooooo love that though…), but I’m just not feeling it.

crazy_fangirl__s_glomp_attack_by_Nutid

Let’s take a look:

The Oxford Dictionary defines a well-wisher as:

“a person who desires happiness or success for another, or who expresses such a desire:

Hick received plenty of advice from well-wishers”

OK, not bad…

I certainly wish nothing but the best for Richard, root for him and contribute in my own measly way by buying cinema tickets, DVD and such, not to mention that shameful moment when I actually bought the Guy of Gisborne action figure that I’m way too ashamed to talk about just yet…

But what about passion, Richard?

fangirl

Let’s take another word: fan

“a person who has a strong interest in or admiration for a particular sport, art form, or famous person:

I’m a fan of this author”

That certainly fits me much better, although the origins come from “fanatic” and…well… I hope that’s not what I am just yet, but give it time!

Strong interest? Check!

Admiration? Double check with a cherry on top!

Of course showing interest and admiration is tied to hoping the object of our interest will thrive, after all, in part, their success is our joy.

Let’s crank it up a notch- how about fangirl:

“(informal) a female fan, especially one who is obsessive about comics, film, music, or science fiction:

your average fangirl, despite the implication of the name, is a grown-up”

Admirer:

“someone who has a particular regard for someone or something:

he was a great admirer of Henry James”

Good, not great, but allocatess with Armitage, so that’s a bonus and doesn’t have that strong stench of crazy…

Then there are the Richardettes, The Armitage Army and RArmy, but this refers to the whole group, a fandom, not an individual.

pervy-fangirls

The point is, as has been proven by the already beyond boring discussion about the Cumberbitches, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and someone hooked on Richard Armitage, however they choose to identify themselves, will nevertheless show interest and support the man.

If you don’t mind, Richard, I’ll wish my colleagues well and I’ll stick to being your fan.

You can call me a crazy fan (no, seriously, preferably whisper it gently in my ear…) but if the Jimmy Choo fits then that’s who I am!

RA Flash Fan Event: The Shelf-Life of a Fangirl Crush

RA flash event

Unfortunately I missed out on a great deal of the RA Flash Fan Event but wanted to contribute one last time before we wrap things up.

I’ve written two posts inspired by the phrase “I Saw Something Fine” which you can read here and here.

Many of us started the event by sharing how we ended up being swept by Armitage fever and it seems only fitting to end the event by posting about the shelf-life of a fangirl.

So what exactly IS the shelf-life of a celeb crush?

I’m sure the duration differs as celeb fascinations vary depending on the sufferer individual, but it always starts with seeing something fine!

In my case it’s been two and a half years and in that time I’ve had periods of… shall we say… rest, but then I always find myself being dragged in again (much like the mafia…).

Here’s a group of categories specifying the longevity of your fangirling:

Armitage banana fan

Are you a banana?

Your crush lasts anywhere from 7 to 28 days.

It comes in a  flash and is usually instigated by seeing an actor in a particularly amazing role and going bananas.

The feelings are intense but short-lived and before the next full moon you’re ready to split as the object of your admiration has lost its a-peel…

Armitage pear

Are you a pear?

Once you’re hooked the feelings last anywhere from 120 to 180 days (and just happens to correspond with my preferred relationship length…).

You start peeling the layers of your crush and try to reach the core.

You slowly make your way through all the info available on your crush and are becoming quite an ex-peart and pear up with other fans to share the ex-pearience.

Armitage pasta

Are you dried pasta?

You are good to go for up to 24 months if conditions allow for it.

The crush takes hold and you just feel like you’re going to lose your noodle sometimes, but you’re in the company of other admirers, so you can never feel cannelloni…

Then again, sometimes things get a bit heated, boil over and you can’t take the strain.

Even when you’ve had a rest, you end up reheating your fangirling passion.

Armitage bee

Are you Honey?

This is the sweetest product found in nature and, if treated right, will tickle your taste buds for years.

We know that beauty is in the eye of the bee-holder, but anyone who questions your loyalty needs to buzz off!

You know very well that the object of your affections is the bee’s knees and no one will tell you otherwise!

After years of participating in mass adoration, you still manage to retail your enthusiasm (and sometimes act like a bumbling fangirl), and you know the importance of beeing positive when swarming for new stuff and over-analyzing the stinger off your crush.

What’s your fangirling shelf-life brought on by seeing something fine?

Update:

I forgot I had done this very short clip a few years ago about Busy Bee Richard, so this is for all my Honey Friends 🙂
