Going from Silly to Stereotype Sundays?

Magzy asked me the other day whatever happened to Silly Sundays.

I think it’s 90% of post content here could be described that way so that didn’t make Sunday any special.

My mind went from Silly to Stereotype Sunday, inspired by Ms S’s love of German beer.

Armitage, Bavarian lederhosen, sounds like a winner to me!

International Armitage flags

So I’ve decided to take stereotypes of some countries and used them to objectify beautify our dear Richard!

This will be an ongoing project, so if there’s any other stereotypical features or garb of a specific country that you’d like to see RA plonked in, drop them in comments with suggestions on which feature to highlight.

It’s all a bit of fun, so I don’t want anybody huffing and puffing ready to blow this blog down, I don’t drink vodka much, nor do I have beached hair or eat kiełbasa.

Today we will start with German Armitage!

German Armitage

We know that Richard has the legs for these shorts and socks, he’s also been photographed nursing an oversized beer in his younger years.

I’ve taken the most stereotypical features like the full Bavarian outfit, beer, beautiful mountains, Octoberfest, pretzels, and some dog shape wurst because obviously no German household would be complete without it…

By the way, I met two Armitage fans in London last year in December and they were both wearing lederhosen which I felt was quite extreme seeing that it was very frosty that day…

OK, they weren’t, but wouldn’t it have been fun?  😉

Zum Wohl! Armitage Friends!

Don’t mind me, I’ll just Hoot! Hoot!

I’ve held on to this image for over 2 years in hopes that I will one day use it…

vintage graduation

What’s that in my hand?

Why, it’s my very own horn.

I hate to hoot it but…

HOOT! HOOT!

I am Oh! so very proud to be able to share with you the news that both Magzy and I are have graduated and gotten out MA.

And we kicked arse, if you don’t mind me saying 🙂

The grading standard system at Polish Universities is 2-5 and we both got a 6 and have graduated with distinctions.

It came as quite a shock as I didn’t even know that was possible and a 5 was really the top of my dreams.

For those who don’t know, I was writing my MA thesis on the subject of online communities, the Network Society, fandoms and fan labor, fanfiction in particular.

pinup$graduate

I’d like to once again thank all of those who took the time to take part in my fandom survey and to those wonderful fanfiction authors who filled out my questionnaire.

The third and final chapter was based on the analysis of how fanfic authors saw themselves with regards to notions created by media and sociology scholars and I think the reviewers felt the data was interesting enough that it could serve as a basis for publication.vintage_graduation_climbing_the_corporate_ladder_invitation-rf4cad506a8a047259c09e2d98c05e7bb_8dnd0_8byvr_512

Thank you to all of those who have rooted me on, especially Ms S who was cheering me up and cheering me on with encouraging RA images in my darkest hour.

To my dearest sister Magzy:

Congraduation!!!

It’s been a rocky road but you and I are an unbeatable team and there’s no one else I’d like to be on this or any journey with 🙂

UPDATE:

Thanks so very much for all your comments!

Magzy was especially please with all of you mentioning her.

She was hooting so hard I had to take the horn out of her hand, the conceited cow 😉

Arty Farty Friday: McQueen and I

This is the last Arty Farty Friday of September and I wanted to take the series of posts in another direction.

One of my graduation thesis papers was titled “Is Fashion Art?”.

To make a long story short, I summarized that, indeed it was, and when you look at collections produced by top designers, you can have no doubt.

I also included examples of how fashion and art collide, one inspiring the other, but that deserves its own post.

When I was at Fashion Design school I realised how hard it is to come up with a collection that fits trends, it sellable but original, one that is your voice but appeals to others.

It really is a terribly hard task (not to mention expensive) and as much as I enjoyed the process, I knew I’d never make fashion design my profession.

fashmark_fall-2009_the-horn-of-plenty_

I think it takes extraordinary talent and tailoring/construction skills to make something that is ground-breaking and beautiful.

When designing you feel like everything has already been done before and the few original ideas  you have (lego shoes anyone?) are beyond difficult to construct and make practical.

The world of fashion looks glamorous on the outside, but it really is all blood, sweat, and tears, tantrums and even the odd tiara.

The “it” designer at the time, the one all students looked up to in awe, was Alexander McQueen.

He was a visionary who combined theatricality with superb tailoring, a new voice in the stale world of fashion.

He had taken the catwalk show and had turned it into a performance.

I came across a 2011 documentary titled McQueen and I which follows the designer’s journey into the world of fashion, but which especially focuses on his muse and friend Isabella Blow.

Their relationship was both a burst of inspiration and creativity, but also one marred by depression and resentment.

Blow had an incredible eye for talent and would use her influence in the fashion world to launch new talent like McQueen or McDonald, but felt unappreciated when they’d inevitably move on.

fashion156-alexander-mcqueen-2

McQueen designed some of the most recognisable fashion pieces of our generation and I regret that the documentary doesn’t focus more on his creations, having said that we learn about his tumultuous private life and what would inspire his vision.

This is a tale of an incredibly talented and sensitive visionary who led a pace-paced life releasing 10 collections each year, but also about the pitfalls of fame and the pressure to constantly produce something that will outdo everything you’ve done before.

Final nitpicking through the BAFTA LA TV Tea Party pics

tumblr_mtlrmvwpmF1s2xpf7o1_500

I’m still not done with going through the new RA pictures from  BAFTA LA TV Tea Party (note to organisers: TOO MANY CAPITAL LETTERS in event name…).

There are a few things that caught my attention:

Richard is keeping his chest warm in this cool autumn weather with a small furry beast hidden under his shirt.

What else have you got hidden there?

It’s clearly less Wax on and more Wax off here!

BAFTA-LA- rmitage Hairy chest

I’ve already commented on my likes/dislikes on the topic, but as always, he makes it look sexy.

(insert your own curtain matching the drapes joke…)

Secondly, why are people I don’t know/don’t care enough about being interviewed while that dude who plays Thorin in The Hobbit just waltzes by?

tumblr_mtjw40fJQF1r44fqxo2_500

Priorities people!

(and I hate to say it but the girl was sooooo freaking annoying…)

Thirdly, RA boots are a Servetus speciality (I’m more of a bum and thigh connoisseur, as you may have noticed), but I just had to highlight these:

Ra boots

I know some peeps weren’t too impressed with these boot-ilicious things, but AgzyM is giving them 2 fangirling thumbs up.

Maybe it would be better if they ended below the ankles, but I think they’re arty and show that RA has a great sense of humour when it comes to fashion (tux + boots from a few years back anyone?).

My judgement may also be influenced by the fact that I got a pair of black shoes with the same pattern, they are so shiny and make my feet look pretty 😉

Last but not least, while we’re on the subject of RA in the background here’s a peek at Phantom Richard.

phantom Richard Armitage

It’s not so much that we only catch a glimpse of him, 95% of his fans would correctly identify RA in a line-up simply by looking at a row of backs (and bums…).

The thing is, he’s wearing sunglasses!

I’ll just tell you right now, if he’s wearing Aviator’s I am checking out because the man is clearly on a mission to destroy me with all his hotness.

It’s all a blur, yet the hair still looks unbelievably hot!

Armitage small

Put me out of my misery of uncertainty Mr Thornton Richard!

Look Back, Look Back at me…

I’m intentionally leaving out criticising the knee-pad pants as I think they’d come in handy when he’s on his knees proposing (I was going to take that somewhere else, but I guess this just isn’t THAT type of crowd!).

BVB79ZiCYAATEf_

Is there anything else about the BAFTA LA TV Tea Party pics that I need to fuss over?

Because I’m preparing for new things to crop up and I want to lay these to fangirling rest!

Apart from that profile pic, that one isn’t going anywhere 😉

BTW, See Richard checking out the Thorin pic? Even he’s thinking that is one sexy dwarf…

You’ve taken RA blogging too far when:

Hair growth Armitage

You know you’ve taken RA blogging too far when:

– instead of getting up to wee when nature calls you continue struggling through just to make sure the RA post is acceptable and you can hit “schedule”

– you post 3 (count em’ THREE!) posts in a row about Richard’s hair and the chase that up with another one nit-picking through the same photos

– you are beyond happy when someone identifies the brand of an RA item of clothing (loathed knee-pad pants are apparently Belstaff)

– your laptop battery is dying but you can’t tear yourself away from replying to comments and wish you had some solar panel system installed so you wouldn’t have to deal with interruptions

– the ratio of RA to non-RA stuff on your computer is about 4:1

– EVERYTHING is a potential blog idea and EVERYTHING is related to Richard, yet you’re stumped when you sit down to write

– in general, everything can be explained, analysed, focalised, and soothed with the use of an RA pic

– you think attaching Richard’s head to stranger’s bodies is an appropriate form of amusement and a productive way of sending your time

– dinner, housework, laundry- none of them get done

– you are vocal in your appreciation of someone’s arse… publicly and repeatedly…

– you are facing the most important day in your academic career and yet instead of preparing for it your main concern is that you don’t have posts scheduled for the next few days

Beware!

I too had a normal life once…

Three posts in a row about RA hair is cutting egde blogging…

It’s a very hectic and busy week for me and Friday will either bring about a huge bang or just fizzle out.

While I’m dealing with RL stuff here’s a quick poll regarding RA hair and if 2 posts on one topic is sloppy, three is just plain old lazy 😉

From RA’s recent looks, which hair length would tickle your pickle more (if you had one that is…)?

Do you favour the sleek and chic Old Hollywood glamour length…

Armitage Robert Ascroft cropped

Or would you prefer your fingers to get tangle up in that hot curly mess…

Here’s the quick poll:

Richard Armitage Coiffure Take 2

BAFTA-LA-02

Two Richard Armitage Hair posts in a row is just sloppy blogging, but what’s a fangirl to do?

This could’ve been avoided had Richard emailed me and shared his intentions of walking the red carpet sporting a beyond sexy do!

Next time I hope you’ll be more considerate Richard!

BAFTA-LA-04

I can’t fixate on the Poldark news until it has been fully confirmed, but maybe we’ll get another round of Armitage as a romantic hero in a BBC costume series, hence the style!

Be still my heart and try to take in the Armitage coiffure beauty without bursting into flames!

BAFTA LA TV Tea 2013 Presented By BBC America And Audi - Red Carpet

No hard feeling though Mr Armitage, your look tickles my lady bits and I most certainly give it my two trembling thumbs up.

It’s a bit of a Brazilian blowout and I refuse to believe you can just step out of the shower, run you’re fingers through it and be off.

There’s no wash and go here!

Visually the do is stunning but I’m withholding passing ultimate judgement until I am able to run my fingers through it!

Is is soft and smooth or more crunchy from hair products?

As much as I approve of Richard’s hair, here are some other styling ideas he may want to consider:

He may want to channel the lovely Dawn French and get himself a Dibley vicar haircut

R3

If that’s a little too conservative, how about a little Justin Beiber (minus the baggy pants and brat behaviour)?

R6

Oh Baby, baby, baby Yeah!

Billy Idol anyone?

R4

It feels like a good day for a white wedding, let me just go grab my veil and I’ll meet you at the altar…

If punk is less your thing and metal is where your tastes lie, how about some rock classic

R1

And my favourite, the artsy take on a Warhol…

R5

and if I want to be a Pin Up, I wouldn’t mind Richard being one too 🙂

r8

My favourite still remains this…

BAFTA LA TV Tea 2013 Presented By BBC America And Audi - Red Carpet

Richard, you still manage to astonish and amaze me each time you appear on any red, green, or aquamarine carpet!

You keep it up and I’ll be more than happy to change the name of the blog to “Richard Hair Watch”!

Ps. Not that I was looking but the hairy chest is back too…

Splitting hairs about Richard’s hair…

Armitage Bald

The debate continues, so cue the hair puns!

Hair we go:
Todd is going to great lengths to finish this cutting edge tornado flick and one can only hope he’ll pony up soon, once he straightens out a few things.

I think it’s great he tweets pics hair and there of highlight from the film, we’re still waiting for a great clip, so I’m brushing off any criticism from other fans that he’s showing his true colours by teasing us.

There’ve been some cutting remarks, but let’s knot get tied up about it.

Armitage Hair magic Black Sky

There have been discussions throughout the RA community regarding Garner’s intentions and the disturbing change in Richard’s hair length, as he’s clearly still sporting hair from down under… and I mean from NZ, so get your mind out of the gutter!

It’s something I’ll have to mullet over, although it looks like the mane issues were covered here and here, so check it out if you want to get to the root of the problem.

Gary Thorin Hair

The truth is I can’t wait for the tornado flick, it doesn’t wash any more and I feel stranded.
I’m receding now, it’s all getting too hairy for me and I think I’m just splitting hairs now.

So, to cut this short, hairs to your success Richard!

You are a cut above the rest and we are rooting for you!

Arty Farty Friday: Exit Through the Gift Shop

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I think I’ve already mentioned my love for Banksy, the notorious graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter.

He’s also published a few books which featured photos of his graffiti work as well as a hilarious commentary on art, life and politics.

He also shares anecdotes about how the works were created.

Nothing is known of his identity, however he has become the symbol of street art, his art works are a political and social commentary and have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.

He is one prolific artist, and a cheeky bugger to boot!

One of his most daring stunts was to graffiti Israel’s 425-mile-long West Bank barrier, separating Israel from the Palestinian territories.

The images are thought-provoking and I urge you to google them.

ku-bigpic

Banksy has made some interesting statements regarding museum, galleries and the art work in general.

Although they are meant to be places for the common folk, the decision about what gets to hang on the walls, therefore what is deemed high art, is made by a chosen few.

imagesCAR99BVJ

Apart from that, only a percentage of the public actually go to museums, therefore the access to art is limited.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so fond of street art.

It enriches the cities, with walls serving as a platform, a canvas to express ideas to the passers-by and Banksy is the loudest and most recognisable voice among graffiti artists.

banksky

Banksy backed up his statements regarding museums  when he pulled his infamous museum prank.

He would go disguised to places like The Tate or The British Museum and hang up his own work among the exhibits.

imagesCA5T5185

He pulled the same prank in New York museums—the Metropolitan Museum, MoMA, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Brooklyn Museum.

Less said about museum security, the better…

full_1364852313Banksy_artifact

Some of Banksy’s pieces were removed a few hours later, other lingered for weeks, other still were added to the museum collection as a valuable piece.

banksymus13

I could go on about how important and revolutionary Banksy’s approach to art is, but this post is really about his 2010 documentary Exit Though The Gift Shop.

The project started out as a bunch of footage of street artists taken by an amateur filmmaker Thierry Guetta who managed to document this elusive and short-lived art form.

What the film ended up being is a head scratching account of how the art world will embrace, and spend a fortune on, anything that is deemed the next best thing.

The documentary is hilarious and you will fall for the array of mad characters.

I can’t help thinking that perhaps this documentary is one of the greatest pranks the elusive Banksy has even played.

You’ll see what I mean when you give it a try 🙂

Even if neither graffiti or art is your thing, this is perhaps one of the most interesting and entertaining documentaries you’ll ever see.

And here’s a funny little thing I made as homage to Mister Brainwash, Magzy really liked it, so this ones for her 😉

GaGa for Reblogs

Richard Armitage tumblr

I came across this wonderful parody of GaGa’s “Applause” and it somewhat ties into last weeks discussion 🙂

Chescaleigh performes “Reblogs”, because you know, she lives for it!

For those not on tumblr, it’s an endless stream of images, gifs, videos, fanfics that make your head spin.

It’s not really a place where you comment on stuff, but you “like” (by pressing on the little heart in the corner) or, even better, reblog the post onto your blog.

Although I’m rather a lurker on tumblr and I post only on special days like Armitage Day, I can nevertheless see the appeal of watching those numbers climb.

I’m usually I’m like a fan possessed, going down the posts and liking every one 😉

You can check out the Richard Armitage tumblr feed here.

One thing’s for sure: there’s always something new whizzing across your screen and it’s a lurker’s dream 🙂

BTW, one of my favourite bloggers, Jen from Cake Wrecks also has a steampunky blog called Epbot.

A few months ago she took a blogging and internet sabbatical and now that she’s back, she wrote about the 6 lessons she learned in her time away.

The post is very thought-provoking, so check it out along with the other awesomeness she has on her blog 🙂
